A typical dental examination will sometimes not allow us to detect and locate every problem. Whether you have impacted wisdom teeth, or a child who has their permanent teeth coming in, x-rays can give us an idea of what’s going on below the surface of the gums. They can even detect infections, abscesses, bone loss, and cavities without the need for a physical examination of the mouth. X-rays are a critical part of maintaining your oral health and treating any problems found.

You can expect x-rays to be taken at the majority of your appointments in our office. They are safe to have taken, and we’ll often recommend them for patients of all ages. Some of the different reasons you’d need x-rays include:

• Checkup appointments
• Before oral surgery
• During emergency appointments
• Before or during a root canal
• When detected levels of bone loss
